We aim to create a community hub for disabled people and our wider locality.
The scope for social enterprise and income generating activities will enable DIAL LEEDS to achieve sustainability, leading to further development and growth of our organisation into a vibrant independent service user led centre of excellence for opportunities, health and wellbeing.
Increasing demands on the community and voluntary sector for holistically meeting the health and social care needs of disabled people in addition to supporting other vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society, means this is more important than ever before.
Our mission is to meet these responsibilities through providing direct support services and also by enabling self-reliance as well as harnessing the power of community and peer support networks.
We have had a pro bono design submitted to us from a Leeds Beckett University Architectural student and we have accepted it. It is an ecological, sustainable building using recycled shipping containers. The advantage of this is that it can be situated virtually anywhere with limited preparation foundations. It is also up to 50% cheaper than standard construction.
We have been offered a piece of land in the Leeds 7 area (subject to planning permission), which will be kept for us until we are ready, so we are almost ready to go.
We need to do a new feasibility study on this piece of land and then apply for planning permission. In order to do this we need to raise £4,000.
We wish to have this done by the end of 2018.
Following this we will need to raise in the region of £150,000 for the building costs and fixtures and fittings. This figure may be reduced if we receive donations of any fixtures and fittings. Then we can begin work by the end of 2019, with the hope that we can be in our new sustainable premises from April 2020.
