The Care Act 2014 came into force in April 2015. The Act replaces most current law in England and introduces new obligations for local authorities.
The key changes are national eligibility criteria for the assessment of care needs for both those needing care and those providing care, and introduces some new legal entitlements for carers.
The much publicised change to the way care costs are calculated and cap on care costs does not come into force until April 2016.
